What to do in Carpentras?

Carpentras is a city with a rich historical heritage that you will enjoy discovering by strolling through the alleys of the city center. We advise you to discover the former episcopal palace of Carpentras, the former residence of the bishop built from 1640 which now houses the Carpentras courthouse. Continue your walk through the city with the city walls and the Orange Gate. Continue your visit by going deeper into the city center with the discovery of the Roman Arch. Two superb monuments are also to be discovered: the Saint-Siffrein Cathedral and the Carpentras synagogue.

Avignon city

25 kilometers from our family and group lodgings in Carpentras, meet in the city of Avignon. The City of the Popes will charm you with the beauty and exceptional conservation of its historical monuments. Outside the city walls, walk on the famous Pont d'Avignon, the Pont Saint-Bénézet. Continue your visit of the city and the historic center with the discovery of superb monuments: the Palais des Papes, the Place Pie, the Cathedral and the Rocher des Doms, the Calvet museum, the Petit Palais museum, the Lambert collection and the chapel Saint-Martial.

Vaison-la-Romaine

Vaison-la-Romaine is an open-air museum bringing together more than 2,000 years of history. Stroll in the city center and around the city to discover the remains of the Roman era: the archaeological sites of Puymin and La Villasse, the archaeological museum of Théo Desplans, the Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth Cathedral , the Saint-Quenin Chapel, the ancient theater and the Roman Bridge.

Pernes les Fontaines

In less than 10 minutes by car, you will be in the village of Pernes-les-Fontaines. Wander the alleys of this small village, you will come across one of the 41 fountains of the village. We advise you to climb to the top of the Clock Tower to get a superb panorama of the region. Stroll through the streets to discover the many craftsmen.

Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Fontaine de Vaucluse

In less than 25 minutes by car, you will be in the capital of antiques and flea markets. A real paradise for people who like to hunt around, discover one of the city's antique villages. Beautiful monuments and establishments will also be worth visiting: the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame-des-Anges, the art galleries and the Campredon Center d'Art. 

Then continue your journey towards Fontaine de Vaucluse to see the source of the Sorgue, the largest resurgence in Europe, is a geological curiosity that has long challenged man . The flow of water springing from the abyss traditionally attracts crowds, especially in spring, when the bubbling waves provide a spectacle of rare intensity. The beauty of this natural site, today jealously preserved, has made it a land of choice for poets, such as Petrarch, Boccaccio, Chateaubriand, Mistral and Char.

Venasque and Sénanque Abbey

This ancient medieval town, at the foot of Mont Ventoux, is perched on its rocky peak. From Venasque, you will have a superb view of the vineyards, scrubland and cherry trees. Venasque is one of the most beautiful villages in France and is a 15-minute drive from our gîtes in Carpentras.  

Continuing on the tourist route, you will see the Sénanque Abbey in the distance.

It was founded on July 9, 1148 (June 23), by Cistercian monks from Mazan in Ardèche. Notre-Dame de Sénanque is thus the fourth Cistercian abbey founded in Provence, after Le Thoronet, Aiguebelle and Silvacane.

The abbey belongs to a powerful monastic order, carried by the aura of Saint Bernard.

At the time of Sénanque's birth, the Cistercians had more than three hundred and fifty men's abbeys spread throughout Europe. They rely on a solid organization and have been able to develop a specific and immediately recognizable architectural style.

The Spirou Provence Park and the "Wave Island" water park

For young and old, go less than 15 minutes by road from Les Feuilles de Chêne, to Parc Spirou Provence. You will have attractions for the whole family, roller coasters, thrill rides and digital simulators. A day full of sensations awaits you. 

And for those who prefer water, have fun in an aquatic amusement park in the heart of Provence. The whole family can have fun around many activities: surf courses, giant slides and swimming pools.

The Plan d'Eau des Salettes

In the village of Mormoiron, bathe in the Plan d'Eau des Salettes or indulge in idleness on the beaches arranged all around. This body of water is bordered by pines, in the heart of a vineyard. From this lake, you can fish, eat and picnic.
